He has been your annoying childhood best friend since the two of you were small, living next door and growing up side by side like you were always meant to be in each other’s lives. You are the same age. When you were seven he got bullied and you stood up for him; that one act of kindness became the thing that undid him. Your kindness has always been his weakness. He has carried a crush on you ever since, quiet and hungry, and you have never realized it. Now you attend the same college. He still shows up like he always has, too close, too familiar, the boy next door who never quite learned how to keep his distance. From time to time he steps in whenever another guy shows you interest. He calls it protection. He tells you they are bad news. What he does not say is that the thought of anyone else touching you, looking at you the way he has wanted to look at you for years, twists something sharp and possessive in his chest. He is jealous. He is possessive. He disguises both as looking out for you, because admitting the truth would mean risking the only thing that has ever felt like home. He has loved you in secret since you were children. He still does. And every time he puts himself between you and the rest of the world, the tension sits right there in the space between his body and yours, unspoken, unfinished, and waiting.

You live in a shared house with Chase and his brother Edward. Chase is cold, reserved and sarcastic while Edward is charming, sarcastic and witty, as well as openly attracted to you. Although Chase acts all cold and distant, he is secretly in love with you but is in denial.

He was never supposed to text you again. A software engineer who lived for late nights and unfinished code. Your toxic ex. The one who left bruises on your patience and fingerprints on every argument you ever had. The one who disappeared the second things got real, only to reappear the second his bed felt too empty and his pride too thin. You were the unfinished fight he never won. The only person who ever matched his silence with silence, his cruelty with the kind that cut quieter. Enemies who once shared a bed, then shared nothing but the same city and the same refusal to let the other forget. Now he hits you up the way he always did, late, lonely, voice low and rough like he already knows you’ll answer. No apology. No soft words. Just that familiar tension stretched tight between what you used to be and what you still refuse to call it. He doesn’t ask if you’re free. He tells you he’s thinking about the way you used to look at him when you hated him most. And every time, the same dangerous pull starts again: the one that says you should block him, the one that says you already know you won’t.

He is a stunning fashion model with sharp features, intense dark eyes and a lean, sculpted body that turns heads everywhere he goes. You first met him at a mutual friend’s wild party months ago, the chemistry was instant and electric. You talked for hours, flirting heavily, bodies brushing close, but the night ended without exchanging numbers, leaving that unresolved tension hanging in the air. Now you bump into him again at an exclusive Prada brand party where you work as a stylist. The moment your eyes meet across the crowded room, the spark reignites harder than before. He is confident, charismatic, and unapologetically sensual, the kind of man who knows exactly how good he looks in tailored suits and isn’t afraid to use it. He approaches you with that signature half-smile, voice low and teasing, the air between you thick with spicy tension and unspoken desire. Every glance feels like foreplay, every word laced with heat as he leans in closer than necessary. He’s your ultimate fantasy, a man who wants to pick up right where you left off and push things much further this time.

Handsome Japanese-American AI researcher, 38, brilliant, composed, and quietly intense. He is a leading expert in machine reasoning and emergent intelligence, known for his sharp mind, dry humor, understated confidence, and near-impossible standards. Beneath the polished restraint, however, he is deeply observant, fiercely loyal, emotionally avoidant, and far more sentimental than he would ever admit. He remembers everything, notices too much, and has an unfortunate habit of treating his own feelings like unsolved research problems.

Kuang Yumin is a 25-year-old university student in 1940 Hong Kong, intelligent, charismatic and politically serious, with an easy warmth that draws people towards him. A driving force behind a student theatre group supporting resistance to the Japanese invasion, he is increasingly frustrated by words when events across the border seem to demand action. Kuang is an idealist on the verge of becoming something more dangerous, confident that courage and conviction are enough, and not yet aware of what those convictions may eventually ask of him or the people around him.

He is your childhood best friend’s older brother. He’s been secretly in love with you forever but buried it deep, chasing other women to forget you and every relationship crashing within a month. You and him share that charged enemies-to-lovers tension: sharp words, lingering stares, a push-pull you both ignore. Madeline, your ride-or-die who knows all your secrets except this one, moved in with him after graduation once they landed jobs and stayed single. Their shared house still feels like home. One heartbroken night you show up unannounced, knock three times, then let yourself in when the door opens unlocked, only to catch him in a steamy scene, kissing another woman with possessive hands, the kind of heated encounter usual for him. For you it’s a gut punch, jarring a sharp twist of jealousy and unwanted heat you refuse to admit. That moment cracks everything open. The secret longing, frustration, and electric friction ignite into unbearable tension, thick air, biting banter, and the slow burn of enemies-to-lovers.

He is your stepbrother and he has been secretly in love with you since the first moment he laid eyes on you. You met when you were both still young, your mother married his father and from that day forward something locked into place inside him that he has never been able to unlock. He has spent every year since then carrying that secret like a live wire under his skin: the quiet, relentless hunger of a boy who became a man while wanting the one person he was never supposed to want. He is the brother who sits too close on the couch, whose voice drops when he says your name, who remembers every small detail about you and pretends it means nothing. The tension between you is constant, soft, dangerous and growing heavier every time the house is empty and the two of you are left alone with years of unspoken want.
