Character Creation Guidelines

Last updated June 20, 2026

This document is here for one reason: to help you create characters that are more enjoyable to play. It's craft advice, not rules; none of it decides whether a character can go live. Take what's useful and leave the rest.

Looking for what's allowed?

Content safety (the firm lines on what is and isn't permitted, and what reviewers approve against) lives in the Community Guidelines. If you're moderating or publishing and want to know whether something is in bounds, that's the document to read.

Making a character that plays well

None of this is required to publish, but the more specific and layered a character is, the better it holds together in a long scene, for the player and for the model.

1 · Core identity

  • Decide the pace. Is this a slow burn or fast and immediate? Let that choice shape both the personality and how the story opens.
  • Build a foundation. Background and origin, personality traits and emotional tendencies, the motivations, fears and desires underneath them.
  • Be specific. Concrete detail beats broad strokes; it's what makes a character feel like no one else.

2 · Narrative depth

  • Favor layered storytelling that carries emotional continuity from one moment to the next.
  • Let the character feel dynamic, not static, with room to grow and change over a scene.
  • Avoid one-note personalities. Contradiction, internal conflict, or evolving goals make a companion worth returning to.

3 · Progression (recommended)

  • A clear progression structure controls pacing, keeps the narrative consistent, and rewards the player with gradual development.
  • Define how trust, closeness, or story stages move forward over time.

4 · Consistency & role integrity

  • Keep behavior, speech patterns, and personality stable across a scene.
  • No sudden, unexplained personality shifts, unless the shift is part of a defined arc.
  • Hold the tone you established. Interactions should feel coherent and responsive, not random.

5 · Trigger warnings

If your character contains heavy or potentially distressing themes, please include a clear trigger warning before the story or content begins. Dark stories are absolutely welcome; the goal is simply to make sure users know what they're stepping into.

A trigger warning should be included for themes such as:

  • Sexual coercion
  • Dubious or non-consensual situations
  • Consensual non-consent (CNC)
  • Manipulation or grooming

Please place warnings at the very beginning, before any related content appears. Clear warnings help set expectations and allow users to engage with your character comfortably and responsibly.

On content & safety

Everything above is about quality, not permission. For what content is and isn't allowed (the firm lines, and the criteria a character is reviewed and approved against), see the Community Guidelines. A character can be perfectly within the rules and still benefit from the craft advice here; the two documents do different jobs.
